About AISU
The American Indian Student Union at the University of Virginia was founded in April 2007 following a meeting called by Associate Dean Leonard Perry of the Office of the Dean of Students for all current American Indian students. Prior to the founding of AISU, there were no active on-Grounds American Indian-oriented groups.
Monty Johns and Jade White stepped up to the task of filling the void of an American Indian-related culturally-based Contracted Independent Organization. Today, AISU holds successful relationships with a number of UVa administrative offices, like the Office of the Dean of Students, the Office of the Provost, the University of Virginia Libraries, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and others.
